Founded in 1924, the American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 3 causes of death in New Jersey and the United States. To help prevent, treat and defeat these diseases that affect people of all ages, the American Heart Association funds cutting-edge research, conducts lifesaving public and professional educational programs, and advocates to protect public health.

Today, an estimated 80 million Americans – or 1 of every 3 – are affected by cardio-vascular diseases or stroke. The American Heart Association’s goal by 2020 is to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20 percent.

Childhood obesity is one of the nation’s leading health threats. School-based programs Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart, as well as What Moves U, a partnership with the NFL, and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, an initiative with the William J. Clinton Foundation, are among the many ways the American Heart Association provides tools to teachers, parents and communities to combat the childhood obesity epidemic and encourage children to lead nutritious, physically-active, tobacco-free lives.

The American Heart Association is committed to helping Americans of all ages achieve a heart-healthy lifestyle. Go Red For Women, Power To End Stroke, and Start! (corporate wellness) are just a few nationwide movements of the American Heart Association to create awareness of cardiovascular health, provide free resourc- es and information, and empower people to
live stronger, longer lives.

Since 1949 the American Heart Association has invested more than $3.1 billion on
cardiovascular research, helping to bring such “heart milestones” as CPR, microsurgery,
heart valve replacement, coronary bypass surgery, the pacemaker, and drug treatments for high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, just to name a few.

To make a donation or for more information about cardiovascular diseases and stroke, contact the American Heart Association New Jersey State Office in Robbinsville at 609-208-0020.

The American Heart  Association Promise
To have an extraordinary impact on your life by empowering you and your loved ones to save lives, live healthier and enjoy peace of mind about cardiovascular disease.
